Beyond Life and Death

Hayoon Jay Lee, 2021

"Beyond Life and Death," 2021. Wooden table, rice capsules, animal bones, kitchen & dining ware, rice bowls, framed poems; Dimensions variable.

In Beyond Life and Death, the juxtaposition of bones, rice capsules, with food related objects on the 19th Century King Manor dining table and amongst a c. 1830s tea set belonging to Eliza Gracie King, reflects on values of “being” as further affected by the pandemic. Accompanying the work is a series of three poems framed in 19th century frames hung around the dining room.
