Whether you're exploring New York City or making the most of a layover, King Manor Museum is an easy and rewarding stop. Located just a few blocks from the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and with convenient connections to the AirTrain and JFK Airport, the museum is easy to reach by public transportation.
Spend an hour discovering the historic home of Rufus King, then explore Jamaica's vibrant neighborhood, local restaurants, and nearby parks before continuing your journey. Try a beef patty on Sutphin Boulevard or an authentic Dominican breakfast!
Traveling with luggage? Visitors on layovers are welcome to store suitcases at the museum during their visit, making it easy to enjoy the historic house without carrying your bags. If you're planning to bring luggage, we recommend contacting the museum ahead of your visit.

MAIN ACCESSIBLE ENTRANCE
A wheelchair-accessible ramp is located at the rear of the building, providing direct entrance into the Main Hall.
SERVANTS QUARTERS ENTRANCE
A small ramp provides access to the Servants' Quarters.
FRONT PORCH ENTRANCE
The primary guest entrance has 4 steps:
3 wooden steps
1 final step directly beneath the front door

DOORWAYS AND THRESHOLDS
Visitors should note that many of our interior doorways feature raised thresholds, which may present minor bumps and elevation changes when moving from room to room.

BATHROOMS
Two restrooms are located on the first floor near the main entrance.

Access to the second floor requires navigating several steps:
9 carpeted steps to the first landing
5 steps to the second landing
4 final steps to reach the second floor

MARGARET’S ROOM
Entry to this hallway is NOT entirely accessible:
Visitors should note low ceilings and creaky floors
No railings or entry to bedroom
Door measurements: 72” H x 27-38” W
Stair measurements: 9" H x 30" W

As a historic home, King Manor retains many of its original structural features. Visitors may encounter:
Creaking floors
Strong drafts, particularly during windy weather
Distinct smells associated with aging materials
Additionally, some parts of our guided tours include sensory elements meant to be touched or heard, to enrich the visitor’s interpretation of the historic site.

Unfortunately at this time, King Manor does not have formal accommodations for individuals with visual or hearing impairments. However, we are actively working towards improvements in this area.

There is limited seating available throughout the historic house: - Most rooms contain at least one chair or bench

Parking is available on-site near the visitor entrance.
King Manor is also conveniently located in downtown Jamaica, Queens. Easily accessible by the E, J, Z, and F subway lines, as well as buses, the LIRR, and local highways.
