Traveling Programs

While we would love to welcome everyone to King Manor, it isn’t always the easiest to plan a trip away. Serving the greater Queens Borough out of Jamaica, one of our educators will come to your site with a prepared presentation, some historic objects from the collection, and a wealth of knowledge. Learn more about our programs below!

The Constitutional Convention:

For an Informed Democracy

Students will learn about the Constitution's ratification by observing the process in which it was discussed in the various State Senates. Focusing on Massachusetts and New York Conventions, the program will show how the Constitution’s various details were presented and discussed, not just by Representatives but by everyday people. The weight of these discussions in everyday life, from inns, dining rooms and work places, had a direct impact on the rights and privileges we enjoy today. This will help facilitate discussions on civic participation and the duties of a voting public. Educators will utilize contemporary political cartoons to discuss media literacy, letters between historic figures, and a debate posed to the class to encourage healthy opposition. Typically between 45-60 minutes. This program meets the following New York City Social Studies curriculum standards: 11.2c, 11.2d, 12.G1a, 12.G1b. This program can be leveled up for undergraduate college courses. Also suitable for adults!
