Thaumatropes

In 1824, English physician John Ayrton Paris invented the thaumatrope, an optical toy that became very popular during the Victorian period, when John Alsop King and his daughter Cornelia lived at King Manor. Make your own toy to play with at home!

Paper Weaving

During Rufus King’s tenure, King Manor functioned as a working farm. King raised livestock, including 12 sheep! After the sheep were sheared, the wool underwent a process of cleaning, carding, spinning, and dyeing. Then, it was ready to be woven into fabric, using a loom. Make your own weaving with paper!
